At Interpol’s 92nd General Assembly in November 2024, significant amendments were made to the Rules on the Processing of Data to align with international standards. While these changes aim to enhance governance and accountability, they pose risks, including potential misuse of data and vague criteria leading to subjective interpretations. Robust oversight mechanisms are needed.
INTERPOL Dosyalarının Kontrolü Komisyonu (CCF) 2023 raporu, şikayetlerin %15’inde, erişim taleplerinin %30’unda yaşanan gecikmeler ve bazı Ulusal İrtibat Bürolarının işbirliği yapmaması gibi CCF’nin bireylerin haklarını tam olarak koruma kabiliyetini engelleyen kalıcı zorlukların altını çizmektedir.
The 2023 Annual Activity Report underscores the CCF’s critical role in safeguarding the integrity of INTERPOL’s data processing activities while upholding human rights and international legal standards. Despite significant achievements, the report highlights persistent challenges, including delays in 15% of complaints, 30% of access requests, and non-cooperation by some NCBs, which hinder the CCF’s ability to fully protect the rights of individuals.

It is imperative that Interpol complies with its own rules by not ignoring the decisions and findings of international human rights bodies such as the UN. In particular, Interpol should take into consideration the UN bodies’ decisions when considering whether or not to issue Turkey’s Red Notice requests, as it is required to do prior to dissemination of any notice on the Interpol database.
Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) published its 2021 activity report.
